Tevye in Fiddler on the...
Illustration
Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof complains to God that it is no crime to be poor, but it is no great honor either. Another theme from the same story is the need of tradition. Tradition keeps them going and gives them identity. But then tradition must face some simple changes and some very difficult ones. Joseph and Mary are financially poor. They bring the small gift with them to the service, and they are keeping the traditions of their faith. It is good and proper to do this act. Even more, they desire to do this act, but they receive so much more than they expect.
