The name, Fanny Crosby, is well known for the hymns she wrote in her long Christian life. Born in 1820, she lived until 1915, remembered as the most prolific and significant writer of gospel songs in American history. Among her hymns are, "Jesus, Keep Me Near The Cross," "Rescue The Perishing," and "To God Be The Glory."
Left sightless at the age of six weeks, she began writing verses at the age of 8. She wrote more than 8,500 poems, many of them set to music.
