In the early 1940s a young woman entered Oxford University in England with little direction in her life. She did not know what she wanted to do with her future. Then two things happened. First, she became a Christian under the influence of C. S. Lewis, professor of English and a well-known evangelical writer. Second, against the advice of almost everyone, she left Oxford and began to study nursing. After four years of rigorous training she was certified to be a nurse. At the age of 29 she had her first real job as a nurse in a cancer ward of a hospital.
