In Charles Dickens' book A Tale Of Two Cities the hero is saved from death by a friend who is willing to die in his place. The friend is able to make this sacrifice because of his striking resemblance to the main character. He takes his place on the guillotine platform and will be killed in the main character's place. His final words are, "It is a far, far better thing that I do than I have ever done and it is a far better place that I go to than I have ever known." A life would be given for another. -- Watson
