I asked members of a Bible study group to imagine that they were witnessing the dying of Jesus on a cross, but to do so from the perspective of one kind of person or another. The Roman saw Jesus as just one more hot-headed Jewish rabble-rouser, vainly attempting to resist the imperial power of Rome and instigate some sort of futile rebellion. The chief priest saw Jesus as a dangerous Galilean charismatic, apt to prompt brutal repression from Rome. The disciple of Jesus saw all the hopes and ambitions of his followers crushed into blood-soaked dust.
